Steps to update the live site on the SFTP server.
Edit posts, pages, data files, styles, etc. as needed.
Make sure the Jekyll container is running:
docker ps | grep quads-site
If it’s not running, start it:
docker start quads-site
Open http://localhost:4000 in your browser. The container auto-regenerates on file changes, so just refresh after edits.
Click through:
docker exec quads-site bundle exec jekyll clean
docker exec quads-site bundle exec jekyll build
Verify _site/ looks right:
ls _site/
Expected: 404.html, about, assets, blog, categories, feed.xml, index.html, page2, posts, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, tags.
rm -f _site/Dockerfile _site/README.md
(These get copied in because _config.yml doesn’t exclude them. Safe to remove from the upload.)
sftp USER@HOST
You should land in the web root (where index.html, assets/, etc. live).
In the sftp> prompt:
lcd /Users/epap/Projects/sites/quads-site/_site
put -r *
Wait for it to finish — every file scrolls by as it uploads.
ls
bye
Then open the live site in a browser and click through the same pages you tested in step 2.
put -r * overwrites files on the server that have the same name and leaves everything else alone. The remote extras (awstats-icon/, awstatsicons/, icon/, index_old.html, page2/, README.md) stay in place.lftp mirror -R --only-newer.
